The IM is part curriculum guide, part detailed training plan with training materials-
including slides and handouts. Each session is filled with ideas for expanding and
enhancing your training, so use the IM as a starting point for teaching content. We also
provide suggestions for Mixing It Up! – providing suggestions on ways to change up the
session, with guest speakers, ideas for supplemental interviews, and alternative ideas for
presenting the content. You’ll also find grading rubrics for workbook exercises included in
               the IM.

Each of the 15 sessions is designed to be presented in 1 hour, with some additional
homework and outside class activities. Each section contains the planning instructions
for the session, and then presents detailed discussion of the material and activities
presented in the session. Each session is designed to stand alone, but activities completed
in one section may be used to enhance another. We’ve put the sessions in an order that
begins by assessing current skills and experience, and then launches into setting goals and

objectives for the ultimate target job and the college experience. Next, we explore adulting
skills, introducing and reinforcing the personal management skills students need to survive
and thrive independently in a college setting.
A companion CD contains the slide decks, handouts, and supplements used in the IM.
                                           For Evaluation Only
Slides are in PowerPoint™ format and can be adapted or edited to meet the needs of your
class. Handouts used in each section of the IM can be printed ahead of time and
distributed to individuals for use in the class, or as a take home exercise.

               Job Camp (Additional 15-session
               program, often taught with College
               Boot Camp)

Job Camp is a 15-hour course designed to target
individuals need to self-manage their career paths and
secure employment. Job Camp focuses on getting ready to
enter the workforce as a part-time employee. Job Camp
helps students engage the soft-skills essential to professionalism, while identifying the
participant’s transferable skills and gaps for reaching target career positions. Job Camp can
be taught independently, or in tandem with the College Boot Camp. The College Prep
Portfolio Workbook is also used in this course along with Creating Your Career Portfolio At-
A-Glance Guide for Students, 4ed. Creating a career portfolio is an outcome of this course.

               College Boot Camp Content

Here’s an at-a-glance view of the 15 sessions in the College Boot Camp. The IM has been
organized to present topics in the following order, but each session can stand alone. You’ll
find a more detailed chart of each session in the section on Delivering the College Boot
Camp. We encourage you to use the IM as a starting point for developing your own
               customized College Boot Camp.
