P. 8

Camp is retention, so we’ve designed our program to engage today’s teens, with
interactive activities and a group focus.

Make it your College Boot Camp – We emphasize throughout the IM that what’s
printed here is just a starting place. It’s up to you to take these ideas and really make
them interactive and engaging. We provide content and structure, but you should look
for opportunities to help your students make the connections – between school and work,
grades and internship opportunities, making friends and networking, giving to others and
gaining personal satisfaction, and understanding how they can create their own personal
well-being. In College Boot Camp, people see how to be true to who they are, while learning
and experiencing new ideas and new people.

Get people involved in your College Boot Camp! Take this opportunity to involve your
alumni and graduates by recording interviews about their college successes and

challenges, bringing them in as a guest speaker, or having them teach one of the sessions.
Get your local businesses involved by sponsoring different sessions, providing practical
giveaways that students will use on campus. It’s their chance to connect with your
students… what local bank manager wouldn’t love the opportunity to talk about college
checking accounts and give everyone a water bottle with their logo? Or, bring in a member
                                           For Evaluation Only
of the local campus police to talk about how to be safe on campus. Want to mix-it-up? If you
have time, arrange a 45 minute “down-time break” during your session where people can
mingle with soda and snacks… then have the campus police come in and “break up” the
party… Get creative! Get parents involved by supporting their students, giving the parents
homework, or asking a Mom to come in with a basket of dirty clothes and explain the basics
of doing laundry. Not a video… but sorting clothes in real time!

Make it REAL! This is your opportunity to connect with your students and acclimate them
to the realities of independence, academic workloads, the differences between high school
and college, and being on your own, independent life skills not necessarily taught at home.
Keywords to describe the sessions should be: intensive, interactive, fun, chunked for
learning, eye-opening experiences, and ready for the realities of college life.

We’ve also got you covered when it comes to assessment. Whether your focus is on
delivering content, or proving the success of your sessions, you can go as light or as deep as
you need, with an initial survey assessment, individual assessments for each session, and
assessments and surveys integrated into some of the session content. We include grading
rubrics for workbook activities, so you have the flexibility to structure your program to fit
               your needs.

Objectives: By the end of the College Boot Camp, students should be able to:
               • Function independently in a college environment.
               • Identify and build support systems on campus- academic, social, health and safety.
               • Document targeted and acquired skills for use in their career portfolios.
               • Describe the status of individual personal well-being and how it impacts their academic

                   and personal life.
               • Set goals for each area of five areas of personal & professional well-being.
               • Develop a basic career plan for targeted job position.
